Quick guide : Getting Started

You can train indoors on the web without a subscription by using BullWatt, a 100% free indoor cycling app that requires no monthly fees, credit cards, or account registrations. Because it runs natively in your web browser, there is no need to download or install any heavy software.

Here is exactly how you can set it up and start training:

1. Prepare your equipment:

You will need a device (PC, Mac or tablet) running Google Chrome with Bluetooth enabled. You also need a smart trainer or exercise bike that supports the standard Bluetooth FTMS protocol and ERG mode, such as popular models from Wahoo, Tacx, Elite, or Zwift Hub. It connects directly via native Bluetooth, so you do not need an ANT+ dongle.

2. Set your fitness baseline:

Open the BullWatt homepage and enter your Functional Threshold Power (FTP) into the "Setup Your FTP" box. This step is crucial because it allows the app to automatically scale the resistance of the catalog workouts to your specific fitness level.

3. Select a training session:

Choose a structured workout from the catalog. The app offers a variety of sessions, ranging from quick 16-minute "Flash Burns" to VO2 Max intervals, Sweet Spot Training (SST), and longer endurance rides inspired by famous climbs like Alpe d'Huez and Mont Ventoux. Alternatively, you can select a "Free session" to manually manage your own power targets.

4. Connect and start riding:

Click Connect to pair your smart trainer using Web Bluetooth. Once connected, BullWatt uses ERG mode to automatically adjust your trainer's resistance based on your cadence, ensuring you hit the exact wattage targets for your workout. If needed, you can manually adjust the power using your device's arrow keys or on-screen buttons.

5. Save your progress:

When your workout is complete, be sure to click Stop to store the activity. BullWatt does not use server-side backups, but your recent sessions are saved locally in your browser. You can export your workout as a TCX file or set up an automatic sync to upload your ride directly to Strava.

As an added bonus, because BullWatt operates in a browser and features a "Wake Lock" to prevent your screen from sleeping, you can easily use split-screen mode to watch YouTube or Netflix while you train.
